The DF, yes of course I love it, but also San Miguel de Allende, and Tepoztlan, and Oaxaca (we haven't been yet but our friends won't shut up about it... on the list before we leave) and on and on. I can help you put together a great, safe itinerary and I swear you'll leave loving Mexico and the warmth and kindness of its people. But hell yes, avoid the border towns. On that, I strenuously strenuously agree. My family used to visit the border towns when I was a little kid. They were totally different then, a lot of fun. Sad to see what's going on there now. Peace out, Luxmeister, thank you for hanging in with me all this time.MJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00564714863783376506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3480383418556368648.post-37466707041078116382017-06-21T07:41:31.121-07:002017-06-21T07:41:31.121-07:00I know - all I really knew about Mexico before (an...I know - all I really knew about Mexico before (and this is shameful/painful to admit given I also lived abroad and consider myself an above average American in terms of global perspective) was about the resort towns and the scary border town stories. I do have a good friend who grew up in Mexico City but his family is extremely wealthy and lived in a gated mansion so I never really believed the stories. Shame on me. I will still probably skip the resort towns and the border towns but now I want to come see Mexico DF. I'm glad you think there may be some value in the pineapple-at-dinner tale. I guess I was just so impressed with her freakishly good aim, I had to include it. A trilogy is likely if we can even get past the first. Turns out three years of near constant writing and note taking yields a lot of material.MJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00564714863783376506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3480383418556368648.post-88786274098630095062017-06-20T08:47:25.676-07:002017-06-20T08:47:25.676-07:00Laura! I would not, for instance, recommend you vacation in the border towns. The drug cartels are not friendly as they try to meet the U.S. demands for illegal drugs....ahem. Thanks for the congrats on the book progress. It has not been without pain. Writing makes people crazy, or at least crazier than they were before. I'm also thinking of our sweet doggo at home. I think Coco visiting here this week has set her back months. Now she just wants us all the time again. Good news is end is near, we'll be loving her up soon. We're hoping for a chance to travel more through Mexico before we leave but the kids need some time to regroup before school starts at home, too. Wish we could stay until the day before school starts but that may not be appreciate by the kidfolk. And not come to Mexico unless you're forced to?? Why in heavens not?? That makes my heart hurt. Mexico has gotten such an unfairly bad rap, especially in the U.S. Sad face.MJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00564714863783376506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3480383418556368648.post-67287065100305582382017-06-20T03:08:05.502-07:002017-06-20T03:08:05.502-07:00Book! It's too hard to figure out what's good when it's your own real-life stories. Although personally, and I feel like I speak for the entire internet here, all your stories are awesome and you should make it at least a trilogy.Bec Oakleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07152186530221473967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3480383418556368648.post-35109259414452132542017-06-19T20:15:13.304-07:002017-06-19T20:15:13.304-07:00I agree with the Luxemb-ster.
